Now, Read Along

With the Memorial Day weekend almost upon us, it’s time to think about what reading might help fill the quieter hours. Why not choose something from today’s “forgotten books” selections, highlighted on the Web? Among the crime-fiction suggestions are: The Hotel Murders, by Stewart Sterling; Trial and Error, by Anthony Berkeley; Lynx, by Julian Jay Savarin; Hard Revolution, by George Pelecanos; and Legend in Blue Steel, by Spider Page. Also consider The Chisholms, a western by Evan Hunter (aka Ed McBain), and maybe even Taboo Thrills, by Orrie Hitt. For a real treat, follow Michael Carlson’s advice and sample the books showcased at the Trinity College Library exhibit, “The Body in the Library: The Origins of Detective Fiction.” Four more books (including Denise Mina’s Resolution) come under consideration in series organizer Patti Abbott’s blog. It’s also there where you can find a complete listing of today’s “forgotten” participants.
