The Los Angeles Times has posted its selection of the “best crime fiction and mysteries” published in 2008, put together by blogger-critic Sarah Weinman. That list includes: The Dawn Patrol, by Don Winslow; Finding Nouf, by Zoë Ferraris; Child 44, by Tom Robb Smith; and A Carrion Death, by Michael Stanley.
For the complete rundown, click here.
Meanwhile, I spot only three crime-fiction works on The New York Times’ list of “100 Notable Books of 2008”: The Finder, by Colin Harrison; A Most Wanted Man, by John le Carré; and When Will There Be Good News? by Kate Atkinson. A paltry showing, indeed. All of the Times’ selections can be found here.

Richard Price's Lush Life should count as crime fiction, shouldn't it, Jeff? And it was on the NY Times list.
A case could be made for that, yes.
Cheers,
Jeff
