I just received a news release from The Wolfe Pack, a New York-based Rex Stout fan organization that held its 31st annual Black Orchid Banquet last evening in New York City. During those festivities, the group gave its 2008 Nero Award (“for literary excellence in the mystery genre”) to artist-author Jonathan Santlofer for Anatomy of Fear (Morrow).
Also competing for that commendation had been Glass Houses, by Jane Haddam (St. Martin’s Minotaur); The Burnt House, by Faye Kellerman (Morrow); In This Rain, by S.J. Rozan (Delacorte); and In Secret Service, by Mitch Silver (Touchstone).
In addition, the Black Orchid Novella Award (sponsored jointly by The Wolfe Pack and Alfred Hitchcock Mystery Magazine) was presented to Michael Nethercott for his novella O’Nelligan’s Glory.
