Back from the Edge

It was almost a year ago that we started ... and then abruptly had to stop running Chicago Tribune book critic Dick Adler’s serial novel, Men’s Adventure, due to the author’s illness. At the time, Adler told us that he had “just been in the hospital with some major problems,” and was unable to continue with his writing. It wasn’t long after that that relinquished his Tribune post, as well.

Since then, we’ve received periodic inquiries about Adler’s health. Those have picked up in number recently, as his posts have begun to appear more frequently again in The Rap Sheet. Curious ourselves, we asked him to provide readers with a health update. The following is his response:
Jeff Pierce has kindly asked me to file a health update, since all (both) my fans have been wondering. Here it is, short and sweet: I’m fine. New review sites, including B&N.com, have sent me books. I’m working on a mystery book with my heart doctor (title too good to share), still trying to get Men’s Adventure into shape. And enjoying the hell out of my grandkids. Thanks for asking.
Excellent news. And Adler has assured us that, once he has more of Men’s Adventure finished, we can begin serializing it again on this page. Meanwhile, you’ll have to be satisfied with his periodic comments on small-press books, writers’ gatherings in Los Angeles, and short-story collections.

Welcome back, Dick.
