Idiocy of the Week

What sort of a blue-nosed, puritanical nation is the United States when an inoffensive episode of partial (and quite beautiful) nudity becomes such a big deal? From the Associated Press:
The Federal Communications Commission has proposed a $1.4 million fine against 52 ABC Television Network stations over a 2003 broadcast of cop drama NYPD Blue.

The fine is for a scene where a boy surprises a woman as she prepares to take a shower. The scene depicted “multiple, close-up views” of the woman’s “nude buttocks” according to an agency order issued late Friday.
We should consider ourselves lucky, folks. It could’ve been Dennis Franz’s ass instead of Charlotte Ross’ ...

If you’re curious, here’s the clip under indictment. Watch it before the right-wing obscenity police descend upon YouTube.

I think someone should file a lawsuit against the FCC for wasting tax payer dollars on this kind of stupidity. I'm getting sick and tired of the puritanical elements in this country demanding that they be coddled while they openly spew out hate speech to anyone even mildy opposed to anything they say.

If the FCC goes ahead with this fine, then I want Robert Tilton barred from ever appearing on television or radio again for the high number of poor people he's conned into his "prosperity gospel" (ie - feeding his coke habit) over the last 25 years.

This is over a show that ran in 2003? Does it take them this long to do paperwork, or is this a new crackdown to save us from our prurient interests? How very bizarre.

I like Jim's suggestion.

How can the FCC waste time on things like this when they should be battling the real obscenity in this country: Jim Winter's stand-up comedy.
