From Behind the Printed Page

Material Witness’ Ben Hunt is brimming with compliments for Deanna Raybourn, Texas author of the historical mysteries Silent in the Grave and Silent in the Sanctuary (the latter just released in the States). His review of Raybourn’s first published book could hardly have been more complimentary (“a witty, beautifully-written slice of Victorian life among the upper classes, and a fine mystery novel to boot”). And reading Grave apparently convinced him that he had to interview its writer, which he does here.

Meanwhile, Brooklyn author Gabriel Cohen--whose second Detective Jack Leightner novel, The Graving Dock, I am still in the midst of consuming--submits to an interview by New Mystery Reader Magazine. Right off the bat, Cohen explains why it was five years between the publicaiton of his first Leightner book, Red Hook, and that of The Graving Dock:
I published another novel in between, called Boombox, and I wrote a nonfiction book (coming out in March) and some journalism, plus I got married (and divorced). Now I’m finishing up a third Jack Leightner novel, so life’s been pretty busy.
Sheesh, that’s an understatement.
