While I wasn’t terribly impressed by ABC-TV’s rollout this week of its fall 2007 schedule (did we really need a series starring those cavemen from the Geico commercials?), what struck me most was that something was missing. Namely, the much-anticipated (or much-feared, depending on your perspective) series Marlowe, an updating of Raymond Chandler’s classic Los Angeles private eye, Philip Marlowe.
I think we’d all been led to expect this Jason O’Mara series in the fall. But now the Internet Movie Database says Marlowe is “in production,” which means ABC might be readying this rare network detective show as a mid-season replacement--maybe to fill the vacancy left by the much-feared (or much-anticipated, depending on your perspective) cancellation of the aforementioned Cavemen.
