The Resurrection of Marlowe

It was only a few months ago that we reported on plans to revive Raymond Chandler’s private eye, Philip Marlowe, for television or film, or both (see here, here, and here). Apparently, ABC-TV didn’t take our advice to round-file that idea.
According to the Internet Movie Database, 36-year-old Dublin-born actor Jason O’Mara (who’s guested most recently in Men in Trees) has been hired to fill Marlowe’s shoes. Also reportedly cast, at least in the series pilot, are fetching Amanda Righetti and Adam Goldberg, the latter of whom “will play a detective who helps private investigator Phillip [sic] Marlowe,” explains TV Squad. With production already gearing up, I’m guessing Marlowe is expected to be on the case in time for this fall’s TV season.

O'Meara is expected to play Marlowe, but has not signed on yet.

He is currently in negotiations.

Thanks for letting me know, Jeremy. Let me know if you hear anything further.

I would expect him to end up signing, he already has a holding deal with ABC and Touchstone, they just need to finalize the actual series contract.

Right now, it is pre-production. I emailed the production company and am hoping to find out when they are planning on shooting.

One more thing, am I the only one troubled by the fact that an American Icon is going to be played by TWO Europeans? Where are the American actors? Why are they not stepping up?
