Dumb Idea of the Week

Actors Ben Stiller and Tom Cruise playing adult versions of Frank and Joe Hardy, the investigating brothers who starred in a classic series of Stratemeyer Syndicate books, beginning with 1927’s The Tower Treasure? The Hollywood Reporter says that the pair are “teaming up for Hardy Men, a grown-up take on the teen sleuths known as the Hardy Boys.” The paper adds: “The long-in-development project sees the Hardy Boys grown up but not speaking to each other, having been estranged for many years. They are forced to overcome sibling rivalry when they reunite to solve a mystery.”

This “buddy action comedy” is set to be directed by Shawn Levy, who recently directed the Stiller cinema success Night at the Museum. Shooting could begin next year.

Um, that would be Frank and JOE. Gee, didn't you have a shelf full of those blue-spined whodunits as a kid?

Ah, shit. You're right. And no, I didn't read those books as a boy. Don't know why. I didn't discover mystery/crime fiction until I was in high school. Guess I'm still catching up on some of the details of those works I didn't read long ago.

Thanks for pointing out the error.
