Talk About Dressing on the Run ...

We’re still waiting for the release later this month of the latest James Bond flick, Casino Royale, which is guaranteed to be filled with multiple macho scenes in which urbane British agent Bond (Daniel Craig) defeats, disarms, or otherwise humiliates his adversaries. But meanwhile, the Web keeps us entertained with movie clips showing women to be no less able than 007 or other men when it comes to putting down their adversaries.

Remember last month’s clip from the zombie/slasher film Grind House, in which the fetching Rose McGowan quite literally gets a leg up on the opposition? Well, we follow that with a smile-inducing selection from the martial-arts thriller DOA: Dead or Alive, which has already been released in Australia, but isn’t due out in the United States until December 8. Apparently based on a video game series I’ve never played (hey, I’m past the age where I must keep up with such things anymore), DOA follows a quartet of female fighters entered in a knock-down, winner-take-all tournament of skills and stamina, who wind up combining their various athletic talents in order to foil a nefarious scheme. Yeah, I know, it sounds kind of corny. And that’s also the early read from those who’ve seen the movie.

Nonetheless, there are said to be several action sequences worth watching, one of which I’ve installed above. It shows 23-year-old New Zealand-born singer-actress Holly Valance getting the drop on a clutch of gun-toting baddies in what appears to be a hotel room. I don’t remember Bond ever pulling this one off. But then, not even Q could have provided him with the right equipment for such a stunt.
