The Link Between Boxing and Writing
I grew up with boxing. I understand conflict, man to man, and I employ it in my books. It is a wonderful period for boxing right now. I await the Manny Pacquiáo-Eric Morales third fight. Favorites right now are Marco Antonio Barrera, Bernard Hopkins, Antonio Margarito. I appreciate them because they come to fight.

Hi, James. Big fan of your work and I share in your tendency to avoid the major media and the so-called culture it imposes on us.
I'm also a lifelong fan of boxing. Friday Night Fights is the only TV I watch regularly. Along those lines, I'd be curious to know what you think of cage fighting such as UFC and Pride. Obviously, two guys in an enclosed space just beating the shit of out each other with knees, elbows, fists and anything else they can devise is more intense than most boxing. Have you watched any of this sport, and if so, how do you think it stacks up next to good old fashioned pugilism?
My opinion is boxing is to cage fighting as a good sex scene with a moderate amount of nudity is to hardcore pornography. Watching the first, you're glad to get a glimpse of the good stuff and you're left wanting more. Watching the second, you're a little uncomfortable but you absolutely can't look away, and afterward you feel a bit dirty and slightly inadequate.
Overall, I get more out of a good boxing match. I only bring it up because I got caught up watching cage fighting last night and I happened to see your post today.
Glad for this opportunity to communicate with you, and I'll look forward to your response.
