Japan’s Maltese Falcon Society has selected New York architect/writer S.J. Rozan as the 2023 recipient of its Falcon Award for her novel Paper Son (2019), the 12th entry in her Lydia Chin/Bill Smith detective series. As the author herself explains, this prize is given annually to “the best hardboiled book published in Japan in a given year.”
Rozan won the Falcon previously for her 2002 novel, Winter and Night, which also picked up the Edgar, Nero, and Macavity awards.
