One prize recipient we failed to mention amid our coverage of last week’s Edgar Awards ceremony was Deborah J. Benoit, a legal secretary and new author hailing from western Massachusetts. She has been announced as the winner of this year’s Minotaur Books/Mystery Writers of America First Crime Novel Competition.
“The First Crime Novel Competition, which had its first winner in 2008, provides a previously unpublished writer an opportunity to launch his or her career with the Minotaur Books imprint,” explains a press release. “The winner will receive a one-book, $10,000 contract.” Benoit’s book, The Gardener’s Plot, is to be published in 2024.
