You’d Better Warm Up Your DVR

There certainly won’t be any shortage of crime-oriented TV shows to watch this fall. The Killing Times previews more than 80 programs, many only available in Britain or elsewhere in Europe, but a number of which will be accessible, sooner or later, to American viewers.

I’m pleased to see that Happy Valley, Vienna Blood, Slow Horses, and The Brokenwood Mysteries will all be returning in the near future. They’ll be joined by Karen Pirie, adapted from Val Dermid’s novels; A Spy Among Friends, based on Ben Macintyre’s non-fiction book of that same name; The White House Plumbers, revisiting President Richard Nixon’s early 1970s Watergate scandal; Netflix’s Belascoarán, PI, drawing on Paco Ignacio Taibo II’s popular tales of Mexican gumshoe Héctor Belascoáran Shayne (and, I assume, to be subtitled in English); Savage River, about a young woman who returns to her rural Australian hometown after eight years in prison, only to become the chief suspect in a fresh murder; and many more other shows I would never have time to watch, even if they reached U.S. television sets.

Check out the full assortment of options here.
