Just over a month after publicizing their longlist of nominees for the 2018 Theakston Old Peculier Crime Novel of the Year award, organizers of this year’s Theakston Old Peculier Crime Writing Festival (July 19-22) offer up the shortlist of rivals for that honor. Here they are:
• Spook Street, by Mick Herron (John Murray)
• The Long Drop, by Denise Mina (Harvill Secker)
• A Rising Man, by Abir Mukherjee (Harvill Secker)
• The Intrusions, by Stav Sherez (Faber and Faber)
• Persons Unknown, by Susie Steiner (The Borough Press)
• Insidious Intent, by Val McDermid (Little, Brown)
The winner will be selected by a panel of judges, alongside a public vote (which should begin here on July 1). This year’s prize will be given out on the Crime Writing Festival’s opening night.
