When this year’s Watery Grave Invitational Short Story Contest winners were announced last week, there were no opportunities given for Web readers to enjoy those tales themselves. No place in The Drowning Machine--the blog that hosts this annual competition--to read the top-five yarns, no links to the stories elsewhere online.
But finally, two of those tales have been posted in The Drowning Machine: “The Drowning of Jeremiah Fishfinger,” by Ian Ayris, which scored third place in the WGI contest; and “Abolition of Midnight,” by John Higgins, which walked away with fifth-place honors.
