ABC-TV already sought in 2005 to reboot the 1974-1975 cult series Kolchak: The Night Stalker, which starred Darren McGavin as a monster-hunting reporter. It lasted just six weeks. But that failure hasn’t deterred actor Johnny Depp from developing a feature film version of The Night Stalker, the immensely popular 1972 made-for-TV movie that inspired McGavin’s series. It looks as if Depp might star.
Meanwhile, Omnimystery News reports that “Summit Entertainment has optioned the U.S. film rights” to Norwegian author Jo Nesbø’s 2008 standalone caper novel, Hodejegerne (English translation: The Headhunters), “and intends to produce an English-language adaptation in association with Yellow Bird Films, which is probably best known to American audiences as the production company behind the Swedish-language adaptations of Steig Larsson’s novels.”

Johnny seems to have a thing for classic TV series, with his involvement in Dark Shadows and Lone Ranger. Night Stalker seems very plausible.
