Humans seem to love lists. I don’t know why, but it’s impossible for most of us to walk right by a list without giving it at least a little poke. That’s one of the reasons I love Lit Lists, run by the always interesting Marshal Zeringue of Campaign for the American Reader. Though Zeringue keeps things interesting on Lit Lists, as well as the many other blogs in his ever-growing domain, in the last little while, it seems there has been more material included that would be of strong interest to hard-core crime fictionistas.
In recent days, Lit Lists has included links to the Top 5 Faked Memoirs (I don’t know about you, but this one seems crime fiction-connected even though it is not); Oprah’s 11 Unputdownable Mysteries (and, yes: there’s a link to my piece on same here at The Rap Sheet, but never mind that. It’s Orpah’s and it’s still an interesting list); the 5 Best Spy Books, as called by Alan Furst (his list will surprise you); 10 of the Best Fake Deaths; the Best Gothic Novels; 10 of the Best Graveyard Scenes in Fiction (talk about esoteric!), and 10 of the Best Pieces of Fruit in Literature, which has absolutely nothing to do with crime fiction, no matter how you slice it (!), but seemed to me to be a vastly interesting thing to collect.
You’ll find Lit Lists here.

The list of fake deaths didn't include Sherlock Holmes. Therefore the list is bogus.
And I'm sure there are other faked deaths missing, as well. There is no promise of comprehensiveness made in The Guardian's list.
Cheers,
Jeff
