“Creepy” Trailer for Lehane’s “Shutter Island”

Most Rap Sheet readers likely know that the latest Martin Scorsese/Leonardo DiCaprio match-up is the big-screen version of Dennis Lehane’s wonderful 2003 novel, Shutter Island. The movie will be released in October, but a trailer for that film is already available, and it looks appropriately creepy. Mark Ruffalo, Ben Kingsley, Max von Sydow, and Michelle Williams join DiCaprio in the movie Boston.com reports was shot mainly at Medfield State Hospital and Whittenton Mills in Taunton, outside Boston.

While print media have been all over the map with their opinions about this trailer, other than sending you in the right direction, I won’t share them with you here. That’s because most of the critics are basing their assessments on two and a half minutes of trailer. While most of us here? We read the book, we know Lehane’s work, and we’ve been waiting for this movie ever since. Here’s the first taste. I have a hunch we’ll be spilling more virtual ink on this one before we get the chance to see the movie this autumn.

Trailer critiquing and movie critiquing are entirely different things, I think. It's hard to capture the right note and too often they give too much away. IMHO

The only way I can cope with the excitement of sHuTteR IsLAnD is to buy myself a strait-jacket - In fact you may need to buy one when you watch the film - to save your fingernails if the movie is as good as the trailer
