No Holiday for Homicide

Unlike Christmas, Thanksgiving, or the Fourth of July, America’s Memorial Day doesn’t seem to have inspired a great number of crime and mystery novels. Janet Rudolph suggests a few available options here, including a Trixie Belden “girl detective” novel for youngsters called The Mystery of the Memorial Day Fire (1984).

However, given that this holiday (formerly known as Decoration Day) is supposed to be an occasion for people to honor U.S. soldiers who’ve died in battle, you might consider reading a book that features a military veteran, or one that was at least written by a veteran. In Reference to Murder’s B.V. Lawson put together a lengthy list of those options for Veterans Day a couple of years back.
