In all the time we’ve been offering free books through contests on The Rap Sheet, we’ve never seen such response as we did to our competition to win five copies of British novelist Jeremy Duns’ new Free Agent. Seventy-three people from all over the world sent in entries (with three more coming in after the deadline), and almost everyone replied to our question correctly: “Which real-life double agent was appointed head of MI6’s anti-Soviet department Section IX in 1944?” The answer, of course, was Kim Philby.
Out of those 73 correct entries, we chose--at random--five winners. They are:
• Darlene Arden of Framingham, Massachusetts, USA
• Penelope Cozens of Waterloo, Belgium
• Uwe Kreisel of Stockholm, Sweden
• Marco Giubbani of Aulla, Italy
• Brian Stein of Ewing, New Jersey, USA
Congratulations. I shall forward these five names to Duns’ publisher, Simon & Schuster, which should mail out the free copies shortly.
And thanks to everyone for participating. If you didn’t win a copy of Free Agent, take heart: there’s another crime novel giveaway contest right around the corner. Stay tuned.
