A Criminal Competition You Can’t Refuse

The Rap Sheet, in conjunction with organizers of Britain’s CrimeFest 2009, is delighted to offer three lucky readers of this blog free passes to that convention, which is scheduled to take place in Bristol, England, from Thursday, May 14, through Sunday, May 17.

All three of those winners will receive full clearance for the weekend’s worth of CrimeFest events. However, this prize--which is valued at £135--does not include travel expenses, accommodations, or admittance to the convention’s Gala Dinner on Saturday evening. (Tickets to that dinner can be purchased separately at £35 apiece.)

Complete information about CrimeFest 2009--designed for “people who like to read an occasional crime novel as well as for die-hard fanatics”--can be found here.

To enter the contest, you must correctly answer four questions relating to this year’s CrimeFest guests of honor:
(1) Simon Brett
Which one of Brett’s non-series novels was made into a film starring Michael Caine?

(2) Michael Connelly
What connects Connelly to The Garden of Earthly Delights?

(3) Håkan Nesser
What’s the name of the first title in the Inspector Van Veeteren series?

(4) Andrew Taylor
What is Caroline Minuscule?
E-mail your answers, along with your postal address and a contact telephone number, to rapsheet@crimefest.com.

Entries to this competition will be accepted between now and midnight next Friday, May 1. So tune up your detective talents and act fast to enter.

I’m looking forward myself to attending next month’s CrimeFest. Last year’s convention offered plenty of opportunities to mix with notable authors. It was also an excellent opportunity for organizers Adrian Muller and Myles Allfrey (shown at right)--who had previously put together the one-off Left Coast Crime convention in Bristol in 2006--to show that the most populous city in South West England can become home to one of the world’s foremost annual caucuses of crime-fiction enthusiasts.

I hope to see you in Bristol in mid-May.
