January Magazine contributing editor Jim Winter concludes that “It’s not a perfect thriller, but it delivers where it counts.”The story begins with the slaying of Chelsea Hart, a young Indiana woman who’s found (by Hatcher, no less) dead after a night spent on the town in New York City with some of her spring-break buddies. Hatcher and her new partner, J.J. Rogan, are handed the case, which doesn’t at first look like the work of a serial-killer, but may be just that. “The connective thread is there, if not readily apparent, in the unsolved murders of three women five years earlier,” Winter writes. “Still, that long-ago destroyer targeted women from New York’s seedier side, not fresh-faced college girls from out of town. Regardless, Ellie Hatcher can sense the link.”
