• The ultimate James Bond book? Not by either Ian Fleming or Sebastian Faulks.
• Kenneth Branaugh as Swedish detective Kurt Wallendar, coming to British television in October, and to America’s Masterpiece Mystery series next spring. Cool, in more ways than one.
• Although there was much excitement expressed over Tom Rob Smith’s first novel, Child 44--a serial-killer yarn set in Stalinist Russia--finding a place on this year’s longlist of nominees for the Man Booker Prize, it has come to naught. Child 44 has not made it to the newly announced shortlist.
• Last week we had Ann Cleeves (White Nights) guest blogging at St. Martin’s Minotaur’s Moments in Crime site. This week, it’s Sweetheart author Chelsea Cain (who was also recently interviewed in The Rap Sheet.)
• The latest two authors to offer podcasted stories at Seth Harwood’s CrimeWAV site are Charles Ardai (“Secret Service”) and Tim Maleeny (“Prisoner of Love”).
• Sarah Weinman gets all fired up about Gaslight Era Mysteries for the Barnes & Noble Review.
• And now I’ve seen it all: a serial-killer cover boy.
