Take a Flyer on “Fling”

We mentioned here before Christmas that Rob Kantner, the creator of long-missing Detroit private eye Ben Perkins (The Back-Door Man, Concrete Hero) had a new Perkins novel due out in bookstores, Final Fling. Now that the book has had a few months of retail sales, the author’s decided to begin serializing Final Fling online.

Kantner has had some experience at this, after posting 62 weekly installments of a standalone novel, Clean Slate, at his Web site. He explains that each Monday, he will release (in PDF format) one new chapter of Final Fling, a tale that finds Perkins investigating the not-so-random murder of a guy who’s something less than husband of the year. The book’s prologue is already available for downloading.

For readers who’d prefer to purchase this 10th Ben Perkins novel in e-book format, you can do so from the bottom of that same page.

Kevin Burton Smith, grand panjandrum and janitor at The Thrilling Detective Web Site, says the Perkins novels make up “one of the very best P.I. series of the eighties and nineties, criminally overlooked.” If you haven’t sampled Kantner’s books before, now is your chance. For free. What better price could there be?

Not a big fan of serialized novels, especially on line.
