Our Friend Maigret

New York City fans of author Georges Simenon might want to scratch this onto their calendars.

On Wednesday, April 16, an arts group called Symphony Space will host an event called “Inspecting Inspector Maigret: A Tribute to Georges Simenon” at the Leonard Nimoy Thalia Theatre on West 95th Street. A news release explains that “Fellow writers and admirers Colin Harrison (The Finder), Robert MacNeil, and Anna Moschovakis (translator of Simenon’s The Engagement) [will] discuss the work of the Belgian mystery master, including some of his psychologically realistic and wonderfully atmospheric Inspector Maigret novels set in the cafés and alleys of Paris, the French countryside and Manhattan, among other places. Fritz Weaver will perform an excerpt from one of the mysteries.”

The evening’s schedule begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $21 apiece, though Symphony Space members pay $17. (Day-of-show: $25.) For more information or to buy tickets, click here or call 212-864-5400.
