Four More Years!
No, we’re not cheering on America’s wildly unpopular president or the bellicose Republican flip-flopper who hopes to continue his reign. Instead, we’d like to help celebrate Crimespree Magazine’s first four years of publishing (Issue #24, which is scheduled to be sent out shortly, marks the final installment of those volumes) and wish it another four successful years, at least, of informing and entertaining the crime-fiction-loving public.

It's been an interesting four years, and hopefully many more.
It occurred to me this afternoon while driving to go buy new sheets that when we hit issue 100 I'll be almost 60 years old. God, I hope we can stay hip and fresh that long....

This is completely inappropriate. Your readers are all citizens of this country, not affiliates of one party only. I am so angry right now. There is no place for this. This site is a fabulous resource for all things mystery but I am angry. I'm only one voice but this is just wrong. Why offend half the population? Why not make offensive remarks about women now?

Oh, get over it PK. While The Rap Sheet is focused primarily on crime fiction, I don't divorce myself from the rest of the world and its troubles. The United States has been subjected to misrule and political incompetence under George W. Bush for the last seven-plus years, and there's no way, as an American citizen, I am willing to stand by idly and see a Bush clone like John "100 Years War" McCain succeed him. I may serve here as a critic, essayist, and news compiler, but I am also a human being. And when I witness my country being destroyed by Republican'ts determined to make war on the world and increase the divide between the rich and the poor at home, you can expect me to speak up. Anywhere and in any way I can.
If you don't want the real world to intrude on you, then I invite you to visit other blogs. The Rap Sheet isn't going to turn into a political site, but as the editor, I reserve the right to comment occasionally on other subjects than crime fiction.

And as you say, there's no way I'm going to keep quiet about posting something offensive to half the population. Yes, I could say nothing; take it and go on. But why? You are entitled to your opinion as am I, I'm not saying that nor would I ever take that away from you. What if you posted links to the KKK promoting them, would that acceptable? Why would you even go there when it serves no purpose? Why stoop so low for such a great website that is not intended to be political? And to respond this way to someone voicing their opinion is a wonderful. I'm impressed.

But of course there's no relationship between my voicing a legitimate opinion about the U.S. presidential race and promoting the Ku Klux Klan. There's nothing racist or inherently offensive about having a political opinion. The fact that you don't agree with mine, PK, is just fine.
But I think we've had enough of this line of commentary now. Let's move on to other subjects.
