Give a Hoot

Oregon author Kate Wilhelm has won the 2008 Spotted Owl Award for A Wrongful Death (2007), her 10th book featuring Eugene attorney Barbara Holloway. The Spotted Owl is given out annually by the Portland-based crime-fiction fan organization Friends of Mystery to what its members think was the best Pacific Northwest novel published during the previous year. This marks Wilhelm’s second Spotted Owl win; a previous Holloway series installment, Desperate Measures (2001), picked up the award in 2002.

A full list of this year’s nominees can be found here.
