In our zeal yesterday to sort out the winners of this year’s Nero Award and Archie Goodwin Lifetime Achievement Award, we neglected to mention the recipient of yet a third commendation announced this last weekend by The Wolfe Pack, a New York-based Rex Stout fan organization. Maryland resident John Gregory Betancourt, the president and publisher of Wildside Press, has won the first Black Orchid Novella Award, co-sponsored by Alfred Hitchcock Mystery Magazine “to celebrate the Novella format popularized by Rex Stout.” Betancourt’s novella, “Horse Pit,” should be published soon in AHMM.
The deadline for entries to the 2nd annual Black Orchid Award contest will be May 31, 2008.
