My Favorite Things

Writer-reviewer David J. Montgomery has worked up a holiday treat for lovers of crime fiction on his blog, Crime Fiction Dossier. He asked authors and editors to name the three books from any genre that they read in 2007. As he explained,
The books don’t have to be crime fiction, or fiction at all. They don’t even have to have been published in 2007. The only requirement is that the person read it this year and it was one of their favorites.
I don’t know how many writers he asked beyond that tantalizing “slew,” but it looks to be a lot. Thus far, there have been four installments, with authors as diverse as Ken Bruen, T. Jefferson Parker, Julia Spencer-Fleming, James Rollins, Elaine Flinn, George Pelecanos, Tess Gerritsen, Charles Ardai, and many, many others chiming in. (Including, at some point, moi.)

Montgomery will be running further entries in this series “periodically over the next couple weeks as the responses come in and I get everything together.” You can find them collected here.

Speaking of people’s favorite books from the last 12 months, Seattle Times critic Adam Woog announced his list of picks on Friday (including Christine Falls, by Benjamin Black, and The Wandering Ghost, by Martin Limón). While Irish writer-blogger Declan Burke is rolling out his choices over at least several days. He’s already named The Midnight Choir, by Gene Kerrigan, and Cross, by Ken Bruen. Stay tuned for more.
