School Daze

As the Crime and Suspense e-zine prepares to make its leap to an all-subscribers publication, editor Tony Burton announces the sponsorship of a brand-new short-story contest, built around this specific scenario:
It’s Homecoming night at Harrison Ford High School and the game has just finished. Everybody is sad that the home team lost, but there is still the Homecoming Dance to enjoy! A member of the football team takes his girlfriend behind the fake castle set up in the gymnasium as decoration, to enjoy a bit of alcoholic refreshment. In a few moments the football player OR his girlfriend (your choice) runs out onto the dance floor, screaming, “Help! Help! Murder!”
Contest entries should run from 1,200 and 2,400 words. (“Outside those limits,” C&S warns, “the entry is voided.”) And they should be submitted between now and November 15, 2007. Send submissions to homecoming@crimeandsuspense.com, with the subject line reading “Homecoming Contest Entry.” The entry fee is $7 for non-subscribers, $5 for subscribers.

Three winners will be announced in the January/February 2008 issue of Crime and Suspense. Top prize is $125.
