Livermore, California, writer Ann Parker’s Iron Ties (Poisoned Pen Press, 2006) has won this year’s Colorado Book Award in the popular fiction category. It’s the second installment of her “Silver Rush Mystery” series, the first book being Silver Lies (2003). Both feature Inez Stannert, an 1880s saloon owner in the Rocky Mountain boomtown of Leadville, Colorado, who’s not half bad at solving murders and other varieties of malevolence.
Also nominated for this commendation were The Nymphos of Rocky Flats, by Mario Acevedo (Rayo/HarperCollins), and Forbidden Cargo, by Rebecca K. Rowe (EDGE Science Fiction & Fantasy Publishing).
Margaret Coel’s Eye of the Wolf won this same award last year.
