Never Give the Fuzz an Even Break

Good news for those of you who felt that your fond memories of the original, 1968-1973 TV series The Mod Squad were abused by the inferior 1999 movie remake: CBS/Paramount will release The Mod Squad: Season 1, Volume 1 on DVD on December 18.

The show was built around a trio of young cops with ample attitude--Pete Cochran (Michael Cole), Julie Barnes (the lovely Peggy Lipton), and Linc Hayes (Clarence Williams III)--whose familiarity with the generation of “flower children” and Vietnam War protestors could prove helpful. (“They can get into a thousand places that we can’t,” Tige Andrews’ “Captain Greer” says early on.) Story lines often dealt with issues involving drugs, race, and what was then known as the “counterculture.”

The totally cool box art for this initial set of The Mod Squad (13 episodes) can be found here. If you need a reminder of the original series between now and December, the opening sequence is available from YouTube.
