From Mile High to Hula Heaven

It’s difficult to imagine two conference locations as perfectly opposite as those that will play host to the Left Coast Crime Convention in 2008 and 2009. If you add in 2007’s location of Seattle, it’s pretty safe to say that all North American climactic possibilities have been covered in just three years’ worth of LCCs.

In 2008, Left Coast Crime will be held March 6 to 9 in the Mile High City of Denver, Colorado. Conference events are to be held in the Adams Mark Hotel. The Adams Mark bills itself as “the largest hotel in Colorado,” so there should be lots of room for party- and meeting-hungry mystery fans. Colorado author Stephen White will be the guest of honor for this event, while Michael Masliah will be fan guest of honor and Elaine Viets will master the toasts. I’ve just spent some time on the LCC 2008 Web site and I have to admit, I’m already looking forward to several days in Colorado’s capital.

For LCC 2009, pack away the parkas, and get ready to get lei-ed March 7 to 12. Left Coast Crime 2009 will be held at the Waikoloa Beach Resort on the Big Island of Hawaii. The guests of honor will be Rhys Bowen and Barry Eisler; fan guests of honor will be Vallery Feldman and Pam Dehnke; and Earl Derr Biggers will be the ghost of honor. Lee Goldberg has agreed to handle the toasts.

If you just can’t wait for all this funmanship--or you want yet another climactic choice--there’s still time to book your travel arrangements for Bouchercon 2007, which will be held at the Anchorage Hilton in Alaska, September 27-30.
