Queen Bests Bond
Although it was nominated for nine British Academy Film and Television Arts awards, Casino Royale, starring Daniel Craig as superspy James Bond, won only a single BAFTA, for sound quality. The Queen triumphed in the best film category and won its star, Helen Mirren, best actress commendations, while the Forest Whitaker film The Last King of Scotland picked up three awards, including best actor for Whitaker (who beat out Craig). The only bright spot for Bond lovers? Gorgeous French actress Eva Green, who played “Bond girl” Vesper Lynd in the latest 007 flick, was named rising star of the year, an award determined by public vote.
