Little Ms. Sunshine

Here’s a bit of what seems like good news. TV Squad reports:
Citing a need to create a series with a strong female lead after much success with male-centered shows like Monk and Psych, USA networks has greenlit a pilot and eleven additional episodes of Mary Sunshine, a “light drama” starring Mary McCormack as a woman who works as a U.S. Marshall for the Federal Witness Protection Program and must balance her work life with a dysfunctional family.
TV Squad’s Adam Finley cautions us not to look for Mary Sunshine (originally titled In Plain Sight) until late 2007 or early 2008. I, for one, am willing to wait. I very much enjoyed McCormack in both ABC-TV’s Murder One and later in NBC’s The West Wing, and her performance was one of the few reasons to watch Traffic, a 2005 American miniseries (inspired by the British series Traffik). Although this show on USA is described as a “light drama,” I hope it will give McCormack a bit more substance, and more coherent story lines, than Monk and especially Psych offer viewers.
