John Harvey, author of the Charlie Resnick and Frank Elder series, has won the Cartier Diamond Dagger Award from the British Crime Writers’ Association (CWA). The presentation of this much-coveted prize will take place in May at London’s Savoy Hotel. Winning the Diamond Dagger puts Harvey--whose latest novel in the States, Darkness & Light, ranked among January Magazine’s favorite books of 2006--in the rarified company of previous Diamond Dagger winners, including John le Carré, Sara Paretsky, and last year’s recipient, Elmore Leonard.
Harvey’s latest novel, Gone to Ground, is due out in the UK next month. And the CWA reports that detective Resnick, whose last novel-length appearance was in Last Rites (1998) will appear once more in a new story commissioned by Britain’s Five Leaves Press.
