Agents in Place

For The Wall Street Journal, Canadian journalist-author William Stevenson (A Man Called Intrepid, Spymistress: The Secret Life of Vera Atkins) presents a list of what he says are the five “best spy stories ever told.” His picks:
1. The Thirty-Nine Steps, by John Buchan (1915)
2. The Faithful Spy, by Alex Berenson (2006)
3. I Spy, by Geoffrey Elliott (1998)
4. The Last of the Just, by André Schwarz-Bart (1960)
5. Secret Service, by Elizabeth Sparrow (1999)
What, no John le Carré (Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy)? No Charles McCarry (The Tears of Autumn)? And no Robert Littell (The Once and Future Spy, The Company)?

Hmmmmmmmmm

A very odd selection, and agree Jeff, no Le Carre, Littell, McCarry or Deighton, Fleming, Morrell, Greene, Lynds / Ludlum, and I could go on and on.....well I guess it's all about opinions
