Outwit, Outplay, Outgun

It’s gotten very difficult to parody “reality shows” over the last few years. It seems like even the silliest concepts you might think of end up showing up on television. Case in point: a UK production company is looking for British and American contestants between the ages of 19 and 55 to appear in something called Mob Idol. The show’s winner will join the “Russian Mafia on the very top level of its command inner-structure with overgenerous remuneration, initially for one year with the possibility of a permanent position.”

A press release tells us that the show “will consist of rigorous indoor and outdoor tests of physical, intellectual and moral abilities, skills and inclinations.” However, the same release warns, contestants with a prior criminal record need not apply. (Which seems to me like asking for strippers who won’t take off their clothes, but what do I know?) A knowledge of the Russian language is desirable, but not necessary.

Closing date for applications is November 25, with filming to begin in January 2007. If you think you’d like to compete for a spot in the Russian mafia (I can’t believe I just typed those words), you can apply online. But please, if you do so, let us know how it all turns out.
