Favorite Crime Fiction of 2021: Our Turn

You may have noticed that for the last several weeks, The Rap Sheet has been collecting and posting the opinions of other print publications, Web sites, and blogs as to which crime novels were the “best” ones published this year. Those selections continue to roll in (CrimeReads just chose its “Best Debut Novels of 2021,” while BookBub is out with its “Best Mysteries and Thrillers of 2021” assessment), and we’ll do our best to keep you up to date on their appearances.

But now we’d like a say on this matter.

Beginning later this morning, The Rap Sheet’s various contributors, from both sides of the Atlantic Ocean, will present their own preferences of crime, mystery, and thriller works released over these last 12 months. After considerable ruminating and frequent last-minute changes, each of them has selected their five favorite books (primarily fiction, but with a couple of historical true-crime picks thrown in for good measure), plus five additional works they wholeheartedly recommend to other readers of this genre. We’ll continue rolling these lists out—one a day—over the coming week.

We hope you’ll enjoy these presentations, and will feel free to let us know along the way what other 2021 releases you believe are particularly deserving of attention.

Stay tuned.
