It was previously mentioned on this page that the British Web site Crime Fiction Lover is soliciting nominations for its first annual Crime Fiction Lover Awards, to be given out to what readers and judges contend are the finest crime novels and TV crime drama that debuted over the last year. (Those picks are due by November 10.)
Now comes Suspense Magazine, the Southern California-based monthly, with its own request for Best Books of 2021 recommendations. Suspense is proposing 10 categories of prizes, not all of which overlap The Rap Sheet’s usual range of coverage:
• Cozy
• Thriller/Suspense (includes all books not in other categories listed)
• Debut Author
• Romantic Suspense
• Horror
• Urban Fantasy/Paranormal
• Historical Fiction
• Anthology
• YA/Teen
• True Crime
• Bonus Question: What is your favorite book of all time?
Each selection must, of course, be a new 2021 release, but you needn’t make a suggestion in every category in order to submit your entry. Votes should be returned—by Tuesday, November 16—to reviews@suspensemagazine.com.
The news release about Suspense Magazine’s Best Books of 2021 project doesn’t say when the prize winners will be announced. It seems the editors intend to, well, keep us in suspense.

I really don't like the term "cozy". It should be changed as "traditional whodunit". "Cozy" feels like a very narrow and biased term.
