The organization Crime Writers of Color, founded in 2018 by U.S. authors Walter Mosley, Gigi Pandian, and Kellye Garrett, will receive the 2024 David Thompson Special Service Award. The CWoC explains its mission as “seeking to present a strong and united voice for members who self-identify as crime/mystery writers from traditionally underrepresented racial, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.”
This prize will be presented during the Anthony Awards ceremony at Bouchercon in Nashville, Tennessee, on Saturday, August 31.
Named in honor of David Thompson, a beloved Houston bookseller who passed away in 2010, this annual commendation recognizes “extraordinary efforts to develop and promote the crime fiction field.” A list of previous winners, including The Rap Sheet’s own Ali Karim, can be found right here.
