Mystery Fanfare today posted the lists of nominees for half a dozen 2021 Shirley Jackson Awards. These prizes celebrate “outstanding achievement in the literature of psychological suspense, horror, and the dark fantastic.” Below are the contenders for Best Novel.
• All the Murmuring Bones, by A.G. Slatter (Titan)
• Hummingbird Salamander, by Jeff VanderMeer (MCD)
• My Heart Is a Chainsaw, by Stephen Graham Jones (Saga Press)
• No Gods, No Monsters, by Cadwell Turnbull (Blackstone)
• Nothing But Blackened Teeth, by Cassandra Khaw (Nightfire)

This year’s prizes will be handed out in-person on October 29, during a ceremony at the Boston Book Festival. Said event will also include the presentation of a special award to New York author Ellen Datlow in recognition of her editing the anthology When Things Get Dark: Stories inspired by Shirley Jackson (Titan).
