It isn’t often that I have cause to thank Twitter for anything, but I am grateful to it for bringing me news about which books and authors have won the 2018 Ned Kelly Awards (“Neddies”), sponsored by the Australian Crime Writers Association (ACWA). Those prizes were handed out earlier today during the Melbourne Writers Festival.
Best Crime: Crossing the Lines, by Sulari Gentill
Also shortlisted: Marlborough Man, by Alan Carter; Under Cold Bright Lights, by Garry Disher; Redemption Point, by Candice Fox; The Lone Child, by Anna George; and The Student, by Iain Ryan
Best Debut Crime: The Dark Lake, by Sarah Bailey
Also shortlisted: Wimmera, by Mark Brandi; The Girl in Kellers Way, by Megan Goldin; and See What I Have Done, by Sarah Schmidt
Best True Crime: Unmaking a Murder: The Mysterious Death of Anna-Jane Cheney, by Graham Archer
Also shortlisted: The Contractor, by Mark Abernethy; The Suitcase Baby, by Tanya Bretherton; The Fatalist, by Campbell McConachie; and Whiteley on Trial, by Gabriella Coslovich
In addition, two-time Ned Kelly Award winner Garry Disher was presented with the ACWA’s Lifetime Achievement Award.
