Where Readers Dare

I’m hoping that The Rap Sheet’s well-read visitors will help me out with a little project I have been working on lately, focusing on the once-acclaimed Scottish thriller writer Alistair MacLean.

Below is a poll asking you to choose your favorites from among MacLean’s more than two dozen novels (listed here in the order of their publication). Feel free to select one or more of these books. If you need to refresh your memory about MacLean’s works, click over to this site and then hold your cursor above the “Book Reviews” tab; a pop-up menu will lead you to concise plot summations.

And if you’d like to share your opinions--positive or negative--about MacLean’s oeuvre, please do so in the Comments section at the bottom of this post.

This survey will remain open until the beginning of November 2013.

I'm glad we could pick more than one. I think I voted for six or seven. It's sad that MacLean's best work is just about forgotten now.

I'm with Bill. Just one would be too hard.

Definitely too hard to pick just one. I could double the number if I hadn't been VERY picky. It was good to be reminded of him. Even his bad stories were entertaining.

No surprise the top vote getters are the books that were made into movies. I really liked PUPPET ON A CHAIN.

So little love for The Secret Ways! My favorite MacLean, and I've read them all (& reviewed them at AlistairMacLean.com).

One of my three votes was for "The Secret Ways." I absolutely love it, and try to read it once a year.
I also voted for MacLean's next novel, "Night without End", though IMO it's not quite as strong a book as "The Secret Ways." Incredible atmosphere though!

I can pick more than one? I might have to have another go... :-)
