Boob-Tube Bounty

OK, let’s have a show of hands. How many people out there in Rap Sheet Land remember the 1971 CBS-TV series Bearcats! starring Rod Taylor and Dennis Cole as two soldiers of fortune who roamed the American Southwest in search of adventure during the second decade of the 20th century? Created by Douglas Heyes, the program lasted a total of 13 episodes, of which I have watched ... well, none. So I was surprised and pleased by news that a complete, three-disc set of Bearcats! will be released on May 14 by Timeless Media.

That, by the way, is only three weeks after the previously announced release of Maverick: The Complete Second Season, starring James Garner and Jack Kelly.

You can guarantee I’ll be doing some DVD watching this spring!

I remember that show and watched a few episodes back in '71. Didn't know Heyes created it. He wrote a couple of good crime novels.

I liek nearly all of Heye's episodes on "Thriller". He has a ong and rich career in genre TV. Dont' recall this show at all. But knowing now that it was up against Flip Wilson explains it all. We watched Flip turn into Gerldine Jones (among other comic bits) regularly in our house in the early 70s.

I vaguely remember this one. Couldn't have told you anything about at this late date though.

Yes, I watched that until it was cancelled. Odd that it'll be on DVD. I would have expected it to show up on Hulu instead. Heyes also directed:

He did some of the best Twilight Zone episodes. I didn't know he was also a writer. I must catch up!

I was a kid when it was first one, but I watched it regularly. I remember loving the commercials and the idea of the show so I'll definitely check it out again.

YouTube has full episodes to watch from two sources. Once adds an annoying graphic over part of the picture, the other has the better print and shows it as was.

Heyes was a favorite of Roy Huggins and was involved in such series as Alias Smith and Jones. He also created Barbary Coast but was replaced for the series.
