Time’s Almost Up

Just a quick reminder that noon today is the deadline to enter Corey Wilde’s Watery Grave Invitational short-story competition. This is a three-stage contest. The first step is to apply for an invitation. Writers can do that by entering one of their existing crime-fiction stories (not to exceed 2,500 words in length) for consideration. Those tales must have appeared previously in publicly accessible e-zines (“Your story posted on your own blog does not qualify.”).

“Phase Two,” Wilde explains, “will be the issuing of the invitations and accepting entries. Regardless of the number of applicants, I will issue only 10 invitations to submit an original crime fiction story of no more than 2,500 words. ... Phase Three will be the judging and announcement of the winners. The winner will receive $25 U.S.; second place will receive $15, and third place will get $10.”

Thanks for the plug, JK! I don't know how the authors feel about this strange notion of mine, but I'm having fun with it.

I feel nervous, a bit like I might take up drinking Scotch before it's over. Or maybe marijuana. Something bad. Or maybe that was watching Durham County last night.
