The Weird Turn Pro

Perhaps trying to outdo Anthony Neil Smith’s “freakshow” from last month, writer-editor Brian Lindenmuth steers the Carnival of the Criminal Minds into some pretty strange corners of the Web for its 21st extravaganza. I like his reference, though, to a piece about Swiss photographer David Houncheringer’s staged crime-scene shots and a link to what life might have been like for Charlie Brown and the Peanuts gang had Charles Bukowski been writing their adventures.

Oh, and Lindenmuth has decided to hold a contest, based on eight, er, devilish photographs he features at the end of his post. “I’d like for you guys to send me a flash-fiction-size story [750 words or fewer] using at least one of the images as inspiration,” he explains. “I’ll post them and we can choose a winner.” Shoot your entries to blindenmuth@gmail.com. No word yet on when those entries might begin appearing in Lindenmuth’s blog.

The Carnival moves on in another fortnight to Crime Always Pays, where Declan Burke will be playing ringmaster for the second time.

Aside from its mega-weirdness, I liked the flash fiction contest addition. Like having a new ride on the midway.
