Happy Birthday, Mr. King

Prolific writer Stephen King celebrates his 61st birthday today, and The Rap Sheet would like to extend to him and his family all our best wishes as he reaches this milestone. One of the pivotal moments of my own life was talking with the author in London at a private party held in his honor in 2006, when he came across the Atlantic for a rare visit to promote Lisey’s Story.

To coincide with King’s birthday, British publisher Hodder & Stoughton is releasing, in paperback, the terrifying Duma Key. (That same book will see a paperback release in the States on October 21.) Hodder has also commissioned several writers, including me, to contribute to the Stephen King reader’s guide series on its Duma Key Web site. Click here to download the reader’s guides as PDF files.

And be on the lookout for King’s new short-story collection, Just After Sunset, which is due out in mid-November.

I'm pleased to be the first to second that: happy birthday, Mr King, and...well, I'm so glad you put pen to paper all those years ago.
