Harry Potter, Master Spy

Being habitually distrustful of coincidences, we couldn’t help but notice the convergence of two news stories this week. First came the following report from Nikke Finke’s blog, Deadline Hollywood Daily:
With the success of this summer’s Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Warner Bros. announced today that its five Harry Potter films have combined to become the top-grossing film franchise worldwide in history. It surpasses even the box office total of all 22 James Bond and 6 Star Wars franchises, with two films yet to come …
Then we read in Cinematical that Daniel Radcliffe, the 18-year-old star of the Potter films, may be in line to become the next James Bond--actually, a younger version of the super spy, as imagined in a several recent young adult novels:
The films would be based on a series of books written by Charlie Higson, all of which follow a young James Bond while he’s attending Eton College. It’s there that he winds up getting himself into a whole mess of trouble. Although this isn’t the first time someone attempted to tell the story of a young Bond (there was one book published in the 1960s, as well as a television series in the early ’90s), it’s believed that Higson’s series (which kicked off with Silverfin back in 2005) has become popular enough to warrant a film … or several.
Hollywood is long practiced at turning suddenly popular movie and TV stars into household names. Radcliffe may have yet another film franchise ahead of him.
